In an interesting development that has paved way for Reginaldo Lourenco to extend support to the BJP government, members of the core election committee of the Curtorim Independent MLA elect and supporters have ratified his decision to support the BJP, being the single largest party.
That’s not all. The Core committee and supporters also gave the go-ahead for Reginaldo to join the government. A resolution adopted by the core committee stated that he be given a Cabinet berth with allocation of suitable portfolios considering his political acumen, being a fourth consecutive term MLA, coupled with the demands of his constituents for further development of Curtorim constituency.
The core committee and supporters that met at Reginaldo’s residence on Friday noted that Curtorim Assembly Constituency has not had representation in the State Cabinet for over two decades, which has impacted development work and fulfilment of the people’s aspirations to some extent.
The Independent MLA-elect briefed those present about his plans for Curtorim in particular and Goa in general and of making Curtorim a model constituency as promised to the people. He reiterated his resolve to work harder for the people of Curtorim who reposed their faith in him. He further clarified that he will strive to serve each and every voter of Curtorim irrespective of their political affiliations.
The meeting expressed their happiness over Reginaldo’s thumping victory by a margin of 5055 votes in the just concluded election, further expressing gratitude to the people of Curtorim and the rest of Goa, for their love and support for Lourenco cutting across all barriers and party lines.
Meanwhile, Reginaldo told the media that his workers have given him the green signal to extend support to the BJP government. “I am here to deliver the promises made to the people of Curtorim. My people will be my High Command. I will go by their decision. Since the BJP is the single largest party we have decided to extend support to the BJP. My supporters want me to join the Cabinet”, he said.
Saying he will not compromise on principles and ideology, Reginaldo said “I will not compromise on the ideology and principles”.
The Independent MLA elect was elected from Curtorim for the fourth time in a row. While the Congress leadership had slammed the doors on him, the BJP cadre, including party leaders and Councilors from the Housing Board area worked overtime for his success in the just-concluded election.
In fact, a victorious Reginaldo had emerged out of the counting centre on Thursday accompanied by a group of BJP workers and others, indicating the overt and covert support extended by the BJP leaders for the Independent candidate despite the party candidate in the fray for the Curtorim seat.
