PERNEM
The Republican Party of India (RPI) has demanded a cabinet berth for newly-elected Pernem MLA Pravin Arlekar.
"Our party backed BJP in the State and helped them win 20 seats. Arlekar is the only MLA from all BJP MLAs from the Scheduled Caste and we request the government to make him a minister to honour our community,” said RPI leader Satish Korgaonkar.
“There are many issues still being faced by the SC community, and Arlekar will help solve them. He has worked at the grassroots in the constituency, and is well aware of the problems here.”
“We have spoken about this with our leader and central minister Ramdas Athawale. He has assured to discuss the matter with BJP central leaders," said Korgaonkar.
Others present at the news conference included Digambar Tendulkar, Umesh Hasapurkar, Rahim Khan, Uttam Korgaonkar and Sanjay Korgaonkar.
