One battle has been won but another battle lies ahead for the lone Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) MLA Viresh Borkar as he has to ensure that he keeps the promises made to the people of St Andre, particularly development of the constituency and that too, being in the Opposition.
However, Borkar appeared unfazed and informed The Goan that being in the opposition doesn’t stop an MLA from undertaking development in his constituency.
“There are many instances when Opposition MLAs have done development in their constituency and I am going to do exactly that. I will ensure the development of St Andre. To undertake development, one need not be part of the ruling dispensation,” Borkar informed.
On his plans for the constituency, Borkar informed that he has many plans but those on his priority list include the revival of khazan fields which are rendered uncultivable with the release of saline water by a greedy few.
“I will take up the issue (khazan fields) in the Assembly and see to it that authorities responsible for protecting the interests of farmers are held accountable,” Borkar stated.
“I want to ensure that youth and women of the constituency are empowered through self-employment opportunities. I also have plans to promote eco-tourism projects in St Andre,” Borkar added.
When questioned about his pet projects, Borkar said that his dream is to tap the vast sports talent in the constituency.
“For that, I want to create sports infrastructure with the help of government and private funds. Also, I have a project in mind to put water from the lakes to better use so that the same could be used for drinking and irrigation purposes,” Borkar stated.
