Saying that panic has hit the people of Goa over the deadline set by  the government for the renewal of the health cards, Congress MLA  Reginaldo Lourenco has requested the Manohar Parrikar government to  extend the renewal period of DDSSY cards.

Posing a host of questions  to the government, Reginaldo demanded to know why the people of Goa  have not been given sufficient time for the renewal of DDSSY card,  further demanding to know why skeletal staff is manning the IT system at  the centres designated for the renewal of DDSSY card.

“Why has the  government set the deadline during the Ganesh festival time when most of  the people have gone to their ancestral house/original homes located in  various parts of the State,” he questioned, saying that no proper SMS  is being sent to all DDSSY card holders.

Saying that the renewal  period for Deen Dayal Swasthya Seva Yojna (DDSSY) from August 1  to  September 30, 2018 is indeed very short for the intended  beneficiaries, Reginaldo said, “Rather than  making the scheme  comfortable to the people of Goa, Manohar Parrikar government is  harassing them by putting deadlines and that too during the festival  period. There is all around panic because many people have not yet  received the message for renewal of their DDSSY cards. Hoping their  DDSSY card would be renewed, one can see people standing in long queues  even after 5.30 pm,” he asserted.

The Curtorim MLA pointed out that  Goans are still in the midst of Ganesh Chaturthi festival and there is skeletal staff present at the two designated Margao centres at the Matanhy Saldanha Administrative Complex and the Urban Health Centre for  the renewal of DDSSY cards. “At the Urban Health Centre of the three  operators, two have gone on Ganesh leave. The woes at Matanhy Saldanha  complex are further aggravated due to the breakdown of computers and staff proceeding on leave,” he  added.
