With the government still scouting for a replacement for late Adv G D Kirtani to represent the state in various criminal cases, more so mining, the Director of Prosecution has now instructed the regular public prosecutors attached to the South Goa Sessions Court to appear in all cases which were earlier handled by Adv Kirtani.
Sources in the know told The Goan that Director of Prosecution Sarojini Sardinha has dispatched instructions to the public prosecutors attached to the South Goa Sessions Court to appear in all cases which were earlier represented by Adv Kirtani for the state.
The public prosecutors have been told to appear for the state in these cases, especially mining, until further orders. The stopgap arrangement has been ostensibly put in place with the trial in the mining cases as well as corruption cases before the South Goa Sessions Court coming to a halt after the demise of
Adv Kirtani.
In fact, as reported by The Goan last week, all trials in the mining and other corruption cases involving politicians and bureaucrats had come to a halt not only after Adv Kirtani’s death, but
even before when the Special Public Prosecutor was
indisposed.
Adv Kirtani had been a prominent face doing the rounds in the South Goa Sessions Court when the government transferred all mining cases to South Goa by notifying the Additional Sessions Court as the designate court.
Sources in the know informed that while the Director of Prosecution Sarojini Sardinha has dispatched the instructions to the regular public prosecutors to appear in the mining and corruption cases, the Home Department has set in motion to zero down on a legal counsel to function as a new Special Public Prosecutor to represent the
state in the mining and corruption cases.
