The Assagao Comunidade has decided to oppose regularisation of illegal constructions on its land and has plans to file petition in the high court.
These decisions were taken in the general body meeting of the Comunidade, which was convened to discuss the government’s move to regularise of illegal constructions built on the Comunidade land in Assagao and Badem villages. About 40 members were present at the meeting.
During the meeting, the members unanimously opposed the regularisation of illegal constructions on the Comunidade land. They claimed that if the government allows encroachers to regularise their constructions, more and more illegal constructions would come into existence.
Comunidade Attorney Nelson Fernandes later stated that it was unanimously decided to oppose the regularisation of illegal constructions on Assagao Comunidade land and to file a petition in the High Court in this matter.
