The Reis Magos Gram Sabha, held on Sunday, highlighted the urgent issue of dangerous trees along the roads. Villagers expressed concerns about numerous trees posing threats to vehicular traffic and pedestrians, urging for their immediate removal.
Sarpanch Sushmita Pednekar stated that a survey identified 31 dangerous trees in the village. The Panchayat has requested the Deputy Collector of Mapusa to cut these trees. A committee, including a Forest Officer and representatives from the Power Department and PWD, has been formed to oversee the process. Pednekar also mentioned that some residents refuse to allow the cutting of their trees, even when they pose a danger. A resolution was passed to hold tree owners responsible for any damages if these trees cause accidents.
Regarding the ground near the Electricity Department, Panch member Subhash Pednekar reported that the work is complete, except for laying the lawn, which costs around Rs. 40 lakhs. Saligao MLA Kedar Naik has agreed to fund this through MLA funds, and work will start as soon as the order is issued.
Sarpanch Pednekar also addressed the issue of the small and deteriorating water tank near the primary school in Reis Magos. A new site has been identified on Communidade property for constructing a sump and overhead tank, each with a capacity of 800 cubic meters, to solve the storage problem.
