More than 110 farmers from Tuem-Pernem have complained that their paddy fields have been ruined, after saline water entered their fields through the weakened sluice gate near Pankar Mhadlo fields at Tuem-Pernem.
NCP Goa vice president Rajan Satelkar inspected the sluice gate and demanded immediate repair of the sluice gate.
According to farmers from Pankar Mhadlo, they have made many demands requesting authorities concerned to repair the traditional sluice gate, as saline water had entered their fields.
Speaking to reporters, Satelkar said though the government was implementing different schemes for the farmers, their crops have been damaged.
“The land has become unsuitable for cultivation, as saline water entered the fields last year. The agriculture minister should visit this place and solve the problems,” demanded Satelkar.
Pankar Mhadlo Farmers Association president Vidhyadhar Naik said a tender had been floated to built a sluice gate, but added that no further action had been initiated.
Former Tuem sarpanch Pandurang Naik, Suhas Naik, Vidhyadhar Naik, Ladu Naik, Vijay Naik, Jayaram Naik, Digambar Naik, Tulshidas Raut, Bhagwan Raut and other farmers were present on the occasion.
