Another Goa Revolution Day has gone by and yet another promise from the dais of the official State function to commemorate the historic day was made on Saturday by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to include in syllabi of school children the history of Goa's freedom struggle.
Speaking at the official Revolution Day programme at the historic Azad Maidan, Sawant said, the historic documentation of Goa's freedom struggle will be incorporated in the curriculum of schools from next year.
"NCERT syllabus is getting changed next year. We are incorporating Goan syllabus along with it,” Sawant said, adding that it will include information about contributions of the Azad Gomantak Dal, National Congress - Goa and other freedom fighters.
"It will be part of the history textbooks," Sawant further said.
Sawant's promise to include Goa's freedom struggle in the history textbooks in schools is not the first time that such an assurance has been made publicly by a chief minister.
Over decades several chief ministers have made similar promises at the Revolution Day (June 18) and Liberation Day (December 19) official functions, the most recent being in 2017 when the late Manohar Parrikar addressed freedom fighters and others at the same event at Azad Maidan.
This time however, Sawant claims work had already begun last year to add content in the text books.
"The State government has already started working on the relevant content to be incorporated in the syllabus since last year," Sawant claimed.
Meanwhile, speaking further, Sawant said historical documents related to Goa which are lying in Portugal, neighbouring Maharashtra and also the former annexes to Goa -- Daman and Diu -- need to be brought to the State.
He also said, Goa now needs a new revolution -- Digital Revolution -- after the one that earned it Liberation from Portuguese colonial rule.
"Goa has witnessed revolution for liberation, now it’s time for digital revolution," Sawant said, urging Goans to play a part in it.
The implementation of the National Educational Policy, 2020, and also the introduction of coding and robotics for school children will help bring the changes needed in the education field to give wings to the digital revolution.
