A resident of Sao Jose de Areal on Monday questioned the decision of the Maina-Curtorim police to close a criminal case against a group of persons, whom he had accused as being allegedly involved in stoning his house around three years ago.
Menino Fernandes told the media on Monday that he termed the police action of moving the court by filing a final report for closure of the case under “A” category before Judicial Magistrate First Class, Margao, as politically motivated.
“How can the police move for the closure of the case when the record states that the nine suspects were arrested in the case,” he said, adding that the police are acting at the behest of politicians, who were abettors in the crime.
Menino further demanded to know why he was never called by the police to identify the accused before the police moved the court for closure of the case.
“I have filed my protest reply before the JMFC, Margao, bringing out all the facts
and also praying to the court to initiate action against the dubious police officials,” he added.
Menino recalled that while his house was stoned by a group of persons on April 6, 2015, in retaliation to the demolition of the goal posts, the police had booked a case against him by invoking the provisons of the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes Atrocities Act.
