Residents of Sacorda, nearby areas suffer water shortage

Women gathered around a well to collect water in Battar on Monday.

The water level in the Ragada river, which flows through the Sacorda area of Dharbandora taluka, has gone down. This has caused more water problems because a project that supplies water to the area has been closed.

Now, women are going to wells in different villages to get water because the piped water supply has stopped. On Monday morning, the panchayat board went to the PWD office and gave a letter to PWD Assistant Engineer Devidas Borkar, asking for more water tankers. People suspect that the Karnataka government has taken Ragada river’s water.

The project at Madhalwada used to give water to Surla, Barabhumi, Madhlawada, Battar, Dharge, Talde, Tambadi Surla, and Karayamal. But the project stopped on Saturday because the Ragada river’s water level went down. So PWD started giving water to people through tankers. But some areas are not getting tankers, which is making women upset.

PWD started giving water to people of Madhlawada and Barbahem villages by connecting the project channel at Panas-Sacorda on Monday morning. They solved the water problem in Surla village by connecting the canal at Satpal. But people in Battar, Dharge, Talde, Tambadi Surla, and Karayamal villages have to depend on well water. So women have to leave their main work and fetch water from wells in the morning.

Borkar said that water supply from the project has stopped because the Ragada River’s water level suddenly went down. So water is being given to people in tankers. More tankers have been sent since Monday to supply water to people.

Sarpanch Priya Khandeparkar and other panch members met Borkar to  discuss the water supply issue. They sent applications for more tankers  to the villagers.

Meanwhile, locals of Dattagad and Kasarwad in the Betoda panchayat area protested at the PWD office on Monday because water was not being supplied from pipes. But they couldn’t meet Assistant Engineer Yashwant Mapari and demanded water supply from the junior engineer. They said they would march on Tuesday if water was not given by Monday evening.
