In a significant move aimed at environmental conservation and sustainable development, the State government has taken steps to notify 17.22 hectares of forest land at Sangod in Dharbandora taluka as reserved forest.
This initiative comes as part of the compensatory measures for the diversion of 78.29 hectares of land for the construction of the Tamnar transmission line.
The identified area encompasses survey numbers 21/1, 22/1, and 24/1-A of the Sangod village in Dharbandora taluka.
The decision to constitute this land as reserved forest aligns with the provisions of the Forest Conservation Act (FCA), 1980.
This measure is intended to facilitate compensatory afforestation as a counterbalance to the ecological impact caused by the diversion of forest land for developmental projects.
According to an official notification issued by the state government, the reserved forest will serve the purpose of raising compensatory afforestation in lieu of the land diverted for the construction of the 400 KV D/C Xeldem to Mapusa transmission line and Xeldem to Xeldem (existing) 220 KV HTLS D/C transmission line.
These projects are being undertaken in collaboration with M/s Goa Tamnar Transmission Project Ltd.
In order to ensure transparency and adherence to legal procedures, the forest settlement officer for North Goa will be appointed to conduct an inquiry into any existing rights claimed by individuals or communities over the land in question.
This appointment is in accordance with Chapter II of the Forest Conservation Act, which mandates the examination and resolution of any rights pertaining to forest land or produce.
