Cyber Police warns of action over misuse of social media

PANAJI

The Cyber Crime Police have warned people not to misuse social media as a team is probing a complaint of circulating defamatory morphed photos and messages linked to the parliamentary elections.

The sleuths are inquiring into complaints from Margao residents Amit Pinto and Brucelee Quadros, who alleged that an unknown person or persons had been circulating defamatory morphed photos and messages with false allegations of distributing money to people to vote for a particular party.

The Cyber Crime unit has thus “warned people to desist from such practices as the senders shouldn’t consider themselves anonymous.”

“The law would catch up with them, and offenders would be brought to justice. The complaints are being enquired into by Cyber Crime Police,” it said.
