Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday urged citizens to resolve land and housing disputes through mediation rather than prolonged court battles, pointing out that people often spend more on lawyers than the actual value of their property.
“Use mediation. Take help from Salgaocar Law College’s ‘Janasarathi’ initiative,” he advised while speaking after inaugurating a Jan Kalyan camp at Ravindra Bhavan in his home constituency of Sanquelim.
The Chief Minister highlighted that over 60 central government schemes, including Kisan Credit and fisheries programmes, have benefited nearly 30 lakh Goans.
He noted that many houses built on government, comunidade, or private land remain without legal ownership titles. To address this, the government launched the Mhaje Ghar scheme, he said and added that all pending applications under this scheme will be settled by December.
Sawant added that mundkar and forest rights claims will also be resolved by December 31.
He also said that to regularise ownership titles of flats, the government will soon introduce the Mhajo Flat scheme.
He linked these initiatives to his government's long‑term vision for Goa.
“As India works towards a developed nation by 2047, Goa has set its own target of becoming a developed State by 2037,” he said.
Sawant also dwelt on his government's Swayampurna Goa campaign to achieve the developed State tag.
He said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently interacted for one and a half hours with beneficiaries of the campaign.
“Modi is the first and only Prime Minister to hold such a long dialogue with Goans,” he remarked.
