Revert PMC’s status to VP: Pernem councillor

Councilor of Pernem Municipal Council (PMC), Prashant Gadekar has put forth the demand to revert the Pernem Municipal Council's status back to panchayat.

Narayan alias Zila Mayekar, the first sarpanch of Pernem panchayat, had also demanded converting the municipal council into panchayat some years back. There are 20 panchayats and one municipal council in Pernem taluka.
"I will take initiative with the help of present and former councilors for converting PMC back to the panchayat," said Gadekar.
"The PMC has been in power for the last one-and-half year, but even minor works are pending. There are no streetlights and what is use of having municipal council? It's better to have panchayat so people of Pernem town will get benefit of government schemes," said Gadekar.
"The council has failed to increase its revenue. The revenue earned is spent to pay salary of the employees and there is no money for development. I will move a resolution in the next meeting to convert the municipality into panchayat. I will also discuss this issue with Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar," he said.
