Shiroda Zilla Panchayat member Jaideep Shirodkar on Wednesday has demanded a revision in the land rates notified by the government pertaining to Shiroda constituency.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, Shirodkar said that people of Shiroda, Panchawadi and other areas are demanding justice with the government notifying steep land rates in the villages via a notification issued in 2012.
“People in these villagers are poor and cannot afford to buy land at prices ranging around Rs 2,000 a sq metre. The gram sabha of Panchwadi panchayat had adopted a resolution calling for the revision of the land rates. The people of these villages wonder why the government is meting out injustice to them for no fault of theirs," he said.
Shirodkar said while the land rates have been hiked by the government, no corresponding development has taken place in these villages during the last four years. "Let the local MLA and minister tell the people how many major industries he has brought in Shiroda constituency during the last four years. There have been only promises and assurances, but no new industries in the village," he said.
