Take human trafficking issue seriously: NCP Yuvati chief to govt

MARGAO

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Yuvati President Rakhi Naik on Wednesday demanded that the government take serious the issue of human trafficking in the State with reports indicating that Goa is emerging as a prime destination for prostitution.

Addressing the media, Rakhi said that Goa has been known as a family destination all over the world, but reports compiled by NGOs has sent shock waves in the State that it's fast emerging as the prime destination for prostitution.

Accusing the government for being insensitive and silent on the burning issue, Rakhi said Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, who also holds the Home portfolio, should take proactive steps to stem the rot. “Otherwise, an impression will go to the people all over that human trafficking is being patronised by the agencies in the State," she said.

She said that the NCP Yuvati chief has extended support to the agitation led by PARA teachers Association, adding that the party will join the teachers in the ongoing protests if the government is neglecting the issue.

Rakhi slammed the government for the deplorable state of affairs of the health facilities in Sanguem taluka and charged the local MLA Subhash Faldesai for his failure to usher in development of the constituency. "The Sanguem medical health centre is in a miserable state in providing health facilities to the people of Sanguem. There’s no qualified doctor available at the centre. People have no option than to avail facilities in private hospitals. This only shows that the MLA of Sanguem has failed totally in providing basic amenities such as health facilities to the people of Sanguem constituency," she added.
