Revolutionary Goans Party President Manoj Parab slammed Fisheries Minister and Tivim MLA Nilkanth Halarnkar for failing to address the Pirna road-widening issue despite the gram sabha passing resolution that the MLA answer the people on the issue.

Addressing reporters in Panaji on Wednesday, Parab said the recent Pirna gram sabha had categorically passed a resolution that MLA Halarnkar meet them and respond on the road widening as houses, chapels, temples, shops and other structures are up for demolition.

"However, till date, Halarnkar has shown scant respect for the gram sabha resolution and continues eluding the public on the issue," Parab stated, while further claiming that the MLA along with the sarpanch had time to distribute saplings in the village.

Parab also slammed Goa Forward Party President and Fatorda MLA Vijay Sardessai for trying to fool the people on the issue and blamed Sardessai for reviving RP2021 when he was TCP minister due to which the road widening issues have cropped up all over Goa.

"Sardessai has assured the people that he would try to resolve the issue. But the people should understand that it was because of Sardessai that the RP2021 was revived due to which the road-widening issues are now cropping up all over Goa," Parab added.

Further, Parab also hit out at MP Viriato Fernandes for giving false promises to Pirnakars when his party, the Congress, was responsible for increasing the widths of the roads in the village.

"It was Congress which prepared the RP2021 and showed roads of 15 metres, 25 metres and in some cases showed roads on the hills where no houses existed," Parab alleged.

To a question on whether people will hit the streets on the issue, Parab said that RGP will stand by the people in opposing the Pirna road widening and agitate on the streets if necessary.
