According to Old Goa police, both the postal van and the scooter were proceeding from Bambolim towards Panaji via Santa Cruz when on reaching Santa Cruz, the postal van driver, Ghanashyam Halankar, drove rashly
and hit the scooter driven by Kishore Kundaikar from the rear, dragging him for around 5 metres before falling into a nearby field.
Kundaikar died on the spot while the postal van caught fire. The fire personnel arrived at the spot and doused the fire while also rescuing the postal van driver, who sustained minor injuries.
The postal van driver was later arrested by the police while the body of Kundaikar was sent to the GMC hospital, which was later handed over to the relatives for final rites after completing all formalities.
