Rider serious in road mishap at Guirim

MAPUSA  

A 50-year-old man from Quitla in Salvador-do-Mundo was seriously injured in a road mishap on the national highway at Guirim on Friday morning.  

The incident took place at about 10.30 am when Devanand Salgaonkar was returning home on his scooter from the Mapusa market.  

The scooter fell on its side after crossing the underpass on the National Highway at Guirim and it was unclear if it was a self-accident or a hit-and-run incident. Salgaonkar was seriously injured in the mishap.  

Porvorim Traffic Police Inspector Sanjit Kandolkar was on duty near the Old Bazaar at the Socorro Junction and rushed to the site.

He summoned a 108 ambulance and the injured rider was rushed to the Mapusa District Hospital, from where he was referred to the GMC hospital at Bambolim.

Mapusa Police is conducting further investigation in the matter.
