Teams from the Fire and Emergency Services were rushed to the spot to carry out immediate repair work.
Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) Mayor Rohit Monserrate visited the site and said a joint inspection was carried out with CCP officials, PWD engineers, Smart City representatives and Traffic PI Mahesh Kerkar.
The team reviewed the road cave-ins and the traffic issues caused by them. Monserrate said bringing all departments together helped in carrying out a coordinated assessment of the overlapping infrastructure in the area.
“Immediate corrective measures were identified and directions were issued at the site,” he said, adding that the exercise was aimed not only at ensuring quick action but also at improving coordination between departments for long-term solutions.
Residents and commuters have raised concerns over repeated road cave-ins across the city, especially in busy areas. Several city roads were upgraded during 2023“24 after the completion of Smart City projects, including the parallel underground sewerage network.
Traffic movement resumed after emergency repairs, but authorities said further work will be carried out to stabilise the affected stretch.
The St Inez area has become a concern due to repeated road cave-ins linked to Smart City works, with residents and officials raising questions over safety, execution quality and traffic disruptions.
