The Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) on Wednesday claimed to have completed the Bituminous Concrete surfacing work across all three phases of the road improvement project.
The completion claim comes at a time when certain patches of roads are being dug up allegedly for sewerage/ pre-monsoon works.
A press statement issued by the IPSCDL stated that the roadwork was executed in three structured phases over three months. Phase 1 covered 735 metres, including the stretch of MG Road from St Inez Junction to Caculo Island (185m), MG Road from Caculo Island to Don Bosco School (275m), and SV Road from Geeta Bakery to DB Road Junction (275m).
Phase 2 extended over 1,024 metres, comprising MG Road from Don Bosco to UCO Bank (354m), TB Cunha Road from Café Bhonsle to DB Road Junction (320m), 18 June Road from NGPDA Office to Caculo Island (140m), Cunha Rivera Road from Vinanti to DB Road Junction (40m), and MG Road from Liberty to Vinanti Restaurant (170m).
Phase 3 added another 1,415 metres, covering MG Road from UCO Bank to Don Bosco School (380m), the Market to DB Road stretch (200m), Geeta Bakery to INOX (534m), Tom Liquor Shop to DB Road (200m), and two internal lanes totalling 100 metres.
After the surfacing, road painting and the installation of traffic signage are scheduled till May 31 for enhanced traffic management and pedestrian safety.
Moreover, a focused landscaping and tree plantation drive will take place from June 1 to June 30. The press statement mentioned that special care is being taken to improve the survival rates of planted trees through the use of climate-resilient techniques and regular monitoring.
Simultaneously, significant progress is being made on St Inez Road, where 3,000 metres of concrete roadwork is nearing completion. The sewerage line connection from Taad Maad to the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) has already been executed, paving the way for the final touches on the road surface.
Several roads near Café Bhonsle Square -- Antao De Noronha Road (70m), the adjacent road near Chai Corner (30m), and the adjoining road to TB Cunha Road (60m) have been completed and reopened.
“As we approach the final stretch, our focus remains on timely delivery, sustainable landscaping and long-term urban resilience. We are confident that the transformation underway will greatly enhance mobility, safety and the overall urban experience in Panaji,” Managing Director & CEO, IPSCDL Sanjit Rodrigues said.
