A roadside pit has posed a threat to motorists and students near the Government High School in Ganjem-Usgao.
According to sources, a pit was dug a few days ago to repair a chamber by the side of the road leading from Ganjem to Bondla Zoo.
The chamber has been repaired but the pit is yet to be covered. The pit has not only endangered students and motorists, it has also made it difficult for the bus transporting students.
Uncovered pits and potholes have claimed lives in other parts of the region.
A few days ago, a driver died after falling into a ditch at Mollem at night. Two months ago, a scooter rider died after falling into a pothole on the road in front of the panchayat office in Usgao.
Local have demanded that the pothole be covered before an accident takes place in Ganjem.
Meanwhile, the electricity department has excavated a portion of the road to lay underground power lines and has covered the pit with stones at the junction in Ganjem going towards Bondla.
The stones have been placed in such a manner that it has created a danger to traffic at the junction.
