Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar on Thursday launched the long-pending rock-bouldering work at Maimollem through the Water Resources Department (WRD), addressing a persistent safety concern for families living below a vulnerable hillock.
“Several houses at Maimollem have been living under the constant threat of landslides. Every monsoon, small stones come tumbling down the hillock, leaving residents worried about what could happen next,” Salkar said, underlining the need to address the problem before it leads to a serious incident.
"For residents living along the hillside, the danger is not merely a seasonal inconvenience but a recurring concern, particularly during the monsoon. The falling stones have kept the risk alive, making intervention necessary to protect homes and the people living in them."
"With the commencement of the rock-bouldering work, the focus is now on addressing the vulnerable stretch and reducing the danger posed by the hillside. The project had been long pending, and its launch marks a move towards tackling a problem that has remained a source of anxiety for local residents," Added Salkar.
Salkar said the Maimollem work was part of a wider effort to address landslide-prone locations across the Vasco constituency, adding that retaining walls would be taken up at other vulnerable sites as well.
