PANAJI
Rodolfo Fernandes, the 58 year-old son of former minister late Victoria 'Mummy' Fernandes, is set to join the Congress with his induction into the party scheduled to be held at Congress House in Panaji on Sunday.
In an appeal to his supporters from St Cruz constituency, Fernandes stated, "After discussing and taking the opinions of the people, I have decided to join the Indian National Congress Party along with my supporters."
"As my mother, late Smt Victoria Fernandes has always instilled the values in me that it is my duty to be with the people and take decisions unitedly. It was her dream that I should carry out her legacy and reach out to the poorest of the poor."
"Along with Mummy’s blessings I will strive to keep the INC united and strengthen the party to the best of my abilities bringing it to the forefront."
He further requested all his well-wishers to join him at his residence in St Cruz on October 11 at 3.30 and thereafter to proceed to the Congress House where the induction will commence at 4:30 pm by maintaining social distancing and following all Covid-19 safety protocols.
It may be recalled that Fernandes had unsuccessfully contested the 2017 polls from St Cruz constituency as an independent candidate. He lost to INC candidate Antonio Fernandes, who went on to join the BJP in July 2019 along with nine other Congress MLAs.
