The Aquem side of the Margao railway stationwitnessed an uproar after local tourist taxi operators stopped a private carfrom ferrying passengers.
While claiming that this is not the first timethat private cars have been used to ferry passengers in violation of the rules,the local operators have warned that there could be a law and order situationif the enforcement authorities do not intervene and crack the whip against theillegal operators.
An RTO officer, who rushed to the spot, isbelieved to have later issued a fine amounting to Rs 10,000 to the private carowner.
The local taxi operators claimed that thedriver of the private car tried to hit them and flee the spot after beingconfronted by them.
Incidentally, the private car owner defendedhimself by saying he was only transporting the customer to his office locatedin the city. The local taxi operators and the RTO officer, however, refused toaccept the argument, pointing out that the private car owner had no right toferry passengers or customers in his private vehicle.
The local taxi operators further claimed thatunscrupulous people solicit customers at the Margao railway station despitehaving no permits to operate taxis or a rent-a-car business.
