The upcoming elections for the new managing committee of the Cunchelim Comunidade have sparked controversy, with a section of shareholders demanding postponement of elections over alleged discrepancies in the eligible voters' list.
Some aggrieved shareholders have approached the Administrator of Comunidades, North on February 7 claiming that their names were omitted from the able component list, effectively denying them their voting and contesting election rights.
The elections are scheduled to take place today (February 9), but the affected shareholders have urged authorities to intervene and halt the process until the issue is resolved.
“Our names don’t figure in the able component list, which deprives us of our legitimate rights for the February 9 elections,” said one of the shareholders leading the appeal.
He argued that since they had participated in previous elections, their exclusion from the list was unjustified.
The shareholders have alleged that the list was improperly prepared by the incumbent attorney and escrivão and have demanded its immediate revision based on original records available with the Administrator’s office.
A total of 14 shareholders have signed the appeal, urging the Administrator to annul the current list and prepare a new one in accordance with official records. They have also requested that the elections be put on hold until the corrections are made.
As tensions rise ahead of the polls, it remains to be seen whether the Administrator will intervene or if the elections will proceed as scheduled.
