The Goa Air Customs officers on Sunday seized around 1.78 kgs gold worth Rs 56.38 lakh from international passengers at the Dabolim airport.  

According to Customs Commissioner R Manohar, the seizure was based on intelligence input. It was headed by Dr Raghavendra P, Deputy Commissioner of Customs.   

The officers apprehended three female international passengers of Tajikistan who arrived from Dushanbe via Dubai by Air India flight AI 994. The personal search and baggage search of the passengers resulted in recovery of 1787 grams of assorted gold jewellery which was concealed in inner wears, hand baggage, purse etc. 

The recovered gold is valued at approximately Rs. 56.38 lakh. It has been seized under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962, a press release added.  Since April 2019, the Goa Air Customs has seized gold worth Rs 104.85 lakh.
