Shri Shri Sadguru Parvadeshwar Maharaj (48) from Tallyewada-Bethora, Ponda, who spearheaded the peace movement, passed away on Monday afternoon following a cardiac arrest.
The last rites, ‘Yatidharm Sanskar', will be performed at Shree Gayatripith Math at Bethora on Tuesday at 3 pm.
According to his family members, Shri Sadguru Parvadeshwar Maharaj was suffering from fever on Sunday at 6 am, which repeated on Monday morning. He then complained of chest pain in the afternoon and breathed his last on the way to a hospital.
He is survived by his wife Matoshree Umadevi, son Soham Raje and brothers Ramakant Shirodkar and Rohidas Shirodkar. He was to go on an America tour on June 25 to spread the message of world peace.
Incidentally, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar was felicitated by him last week, while many noted politicians were followers of Shri Shri Sadguru Parvadeshwar Maharaj. The Inter-religious and International Federation of World Peace and The Inter-religious International Peace Council had honoured him as an 'Ambassador for Peace'.
Four decades ago, Shri Shri Sadguru Parvadeshwar Maharaj had started spreading message of peace from Parwad-Karnataka, where he established his first ‘Math’ and subsequently in Bethora, a few kilometres from Ponda. Presently, he had thousands of followers across the world and about 285 ashrams across the world.
"The Maharaj had a wish that there should be peace in the world. Through his preachings, he had freed many persons who were addicted to various vices,” said a disciple and close friend Bhau Maharaj, who toured with him across the world to spread the message of peace.
St Andre MLA Vishnu Wagh, who visited Bethora to offer his condolences, said Shri Shri Sadguru Parvadeshwar Maharaj had played a key role to spread peace in the world and was optimistic that his disciple Bhau Maharaj will work to achieve the same goal.
Many of his disciples visited the Math at Bethora after his death.
