When money is offered for prayers, the consequences can sometimes be violent if the prayers fail to yield the desired results.
Agassaim police on Monday arrested two persons on charges of assaulting a person at Curca-Batim.
According to police reports, Mohammad Habib Shaikh (40) of Indiranagar-Chimbel had lodged his complaint on June 11, stating that an unknown person had asked him to perform some religious prayers.
On June 10, Shaikh took the person towards Curca-Batim and as they reach an isolated spot, two masked persons on a scooter (GA-08-P-6397) attacked the complainant.
In this connection Agassaim police station had registered an FIR under Sections 341, 325, 326 r/w 34 IPC.
Investigations enabled Agassaim police to nab the rider who took the complainant at an isolated place on the pretext of offering religious prayers. He has been identified as Salim Dodmani (21) of Aquem-Margao, who is into transport business.
During interrogation, the accused confessed his involvement and disclosed the names of other two associates, Jaffer Andgil (27) and Manjunath Naik, both residing at Moti Dongor, Aquem-Margao and natives of Karnataka. The two other accused were later arrested.
During investigations, the police learnt that Shaikh had allegedly charged Dodmani Rs 12,000 for prayers to ensure the prosperity of Dodamani's transport business.
However, the prayers did not work for Dodamani's business and on the contrary, he suffered greater losses. Unhappy over Shaik's failure, Dodamani planned to teach Shaikh a lesson with the help of his friends and they allegedly assaulted him, the police said.
All three accused have been arrested under sections 341, 325, 326 r/w 34 IPC. The police is investigating the case under the supervision of PI Jivba Dalvi and the guidance of SP Umesh Goankar.
