Ahead of the ensuing festive season, including the Ganesh Chathurti, the district Police chief, South SP Abhishek Dhania had a meeting with representatives of city jewellers and the New Market Traders Association to beef up safety and security in the market area.
The meeting presided by SP Dhania was attended by DySP Bhushan Shivendu and Margao police station in-charge, PI Tulsidas Naik. The New market traders were represented by President Vinod Shirodkar and Gopal Naik.
The district police chief impressed upon the city jewellers to install CCTV surveillance cameras in and around their establishments. A request was also made to the jewellers to deploy security guards to man their premises, with a further plea to get the security guards verified by the police before their deployment at the shops.
The police said the jewellers promised to cooperate with the police machinery to ensure the safety and security of the business establishments. They have also offered to provide a booth for the police personnel at the market area.
Margao PI Tulsidas Naik said the SP, South has taken the initiative in order to put in place a safety and security mechanism ahead of the festive season. He said the police have offered all support and cooperation to the city jewellers and the market traders in maintaining security around the market area.
