The Betul coastal police successfully intercepted two fishing vessels carrying bombs and personnel off Betul coast as the two-day Sagar Kavach exercise got underway in the state on Wednesday.
The two fishing vessels, which came from the Karwar coast and were heading to the coastal areas of the state, were intercepted by the Betul coastal police patrol vessel headed by PI Brutano Piexote.
The exercise was termed as successful after the two fishing vessels were carrying three bombs. Each of the two vessels was carrying 10 persons each.
After the interception, the two fishing vessels were escorted to the Betul fishing jetty. SP Coastal Police, Bossuet Silva, Cuncolim police station in-charge PI Wilson D’Souza and other police personnel rushed to the jetty after receiving information from the police control room.
The Sagar Kavach is a periodic exercise undertaken by the police station to check preparedness of the security agencies.
Police personnel were seen manning major establishments including the district police headquarters, South Goa District Collectorate, Margao Railway Station and the Margao Municipal Council.
