They claimed that Sangeeta Gurudas Naik had died following a delay in shifting her from the Sakhali PHC to the GMC hospital at Bambolim on January 16. They have set a 48-hour deadline to the government to conduct an inquiry into the matter and have demanded the suspension of the doctor, failing which they have threatened to agitate at the hospital. Addressing a press conference at Bicholim on Thursday, former Sakhali MLA Pratap Gawas expressed surprise over the doctor s attitude in ignoring Sangeeta, who had been admitted to the hospital, after she had met with an accident barely 100 metres from the hospital. “Sangeeta was shouting for help, but the doctor did not respond to her pleas and she subsequently died due to the inordinate delay in shifting her to the GMC,” said Gawas. “While the accident took place at around 2.15 pm, Sangeeta was shifted to the GMC only at around 3.45 pm. I do not know why the doctor wasted valuable time of one-and-half hour, when he knew that the girl was a serious condition. Had he reacted with urgency, Sangeeta s life may have been saved.” Sangeeta s cousin, Ankita, and sister her sister, Tejasri, claimed that the watchman on duty had blocked their way when they had gone to alert the doctor that Sangeet was in a serious condition. They have also demanded stringent action against the watchman. “The number of cases leading to the death of patients at the Sakhali PHC is increasing day by day due to negligence of doctors and such doctors should be punished seriously,” claimed Gawas. Others attending the press conference included Digambar Naik, Sewa Dal member Ramesh Sinari and Youth Morcha President Satyaprakash Parab.
Sakhali Cong wants errant doc punished
Former Sakhali MLA Pratap Gawas, members of Sakhali Block Congress and a family have accused a doctor at the Sakhali Primary Health Centre of negligence in connection with the death of a 20-year-old girl.
