In an interesting development, Salcete Sub-Registrar Chandrakant Pissurlekar was placed under suspension on Tuesday upon an order from the Vigilance Department allegedly in connection with a matter pertaining to registration of a sale deed.
To fill up the void in the office of the Sub-Registrar, State Registrar Ashutosh Apte directed the lady Additional Registrar in the District Registrar to perform the function of the Sub-Registrar as a stop-gap arrangement. Apte has since issued an order directing Arjun Shetye, Bicholim Sub Registrar, to hold additional charge of Salcete Sub-Registrar's office from Wednesday.
Sources in the know informed that the Sub-Registrar Pissurlekar was placed under suspension following a government decision and report of the Anti-Corruption Bureau. Vigilance Director Sanjeev Desai is believed to have issued the order of suspension to the State Registrar Apte on Monday, who served the suspension order on Pissurlekar on Tuesday morning.
When contacted, State Registrar Ashutosh Apte said that the Additional Registrar was immediately directed to perform the functions of the Salcete Sub-Registrar to ensure that normal functioning of the office was not hampered. "Marriage registrations, besides notary services were executed by the stop-gap Sub-Registrar just to ensure that people were not put to inconvenience because of the suspension," he added.
