Encourages them to work to increase crop production

Saligao MLA Kedar Naik has appealed to farmers to preserve their land and increase the production of crops by adopting innovative methods of cultivation.
He was speaking at Saligao at the programme organised by the Saligao BJP unit to distribute free fertilisers to poor farmers. ZP member Sandeep Bandodkar, Saligao Sarpanch Lucas Remedios and panch members of Saligao panchayat were present on the occasion.
“Many Goan farmers are hard-working but are financially weak and unable to buy fertilisers from the open market. They require support from the government and panchayats. There are many poor farmers in the Saligao constituency who cannot afford to buy fertilisers. To encourage these farmers to venture into farming activities, fertilisers are being distributed free of cost to them,” said Naik.
“Though India is predominantly an agrarian economy, very few farmers pursue farming activities in Goa. The State government provides a subsidy to the extent of 70–90% on the purchase of agricultural equipment to help farmers increase their agricultural produce and income. Techniques like land reclamation, soil improvement, and crop selection can make infertile land cultivable.”
ZP member Sandeep Bandodkar and Saligao Sarpanch Lucas Remedios also spoke on the occasion.
