A Saligao resident, Zeeshan Mazhar has lodged a complaint about an online scam wherein she fell victim to a fraudulent scheme orchestrated through Facebook.
In her complaint to the Cyber Crime Cell of Goa Police on Tuesday, the victim claimed that the fraudsters operating a Facebook account with the URL https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61550201610503 approached her through Facebook Messenger.
Persuading her to connect to Admin Tiya and Admin Darlan of one “Kits Model Academy” on Telegram, they enticed her to invest in Bitcoin and bytes, promising lucrative modeling contracts and high returns.
Mazhar claimed she was coerced into transferring a substantial sum of Rs13.98 lakh into two private bank accounts, from October to December 2023.
Upon realising the cyber fraud, she approached the Cyber Crime Cell seeking help. The police have registered a case under sections 419 (impersonation) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 66 of the Information Technology Act.
