The no-confidence motion moved against Salvador do Mundo Deputy Sarpanch Dattaram Redkar could not be tabled as the Panchayat secretary Amit Prabhu did not turn up to conduct the meeting.Five members of Salvador do Mundo Panchayat, Sarpanch Roshni Savaikar, Krishnakant Chodankar, Namrat V Chodankar, Bindiya B Naik and Rajesh Savaikar had submitted a no-confidence motion against Redkar to the Block Development Office on July 6.
The Block Development Office had issued a letter on July 13 fixing a meeting on July 20. Accordingly, the five panch members reported in the office of Salvador do Mundo panchayat at 10 am.
The observer Murari Varadkar was also present for the meeting, but there was no sign of Panchayat Secretary Amit Prabhu. Since the panchayat secretary did not turn up to conduct the meeting, the no-cofidence motion could not be moved.
Later speaking to media persons, panchayat member Rajesh Savaikar said he had phoned Panchayat Secretary Amit Prabhu several times but there was no response from his side.
“He had switched off his phone which indicates he has not attended this meeting deliberately, perhaps under political pressure. Thereafter, I phoned the Block Development Officer Prathamesh Shankerdas but surprisingly he was also not responding to my calls.”
“Finally, I phoned the Director of Panchayats and informed her matter, but she could not do anything. As per the directions of High Court and Panchayat Raj Act, the panchayat secretary has to conduct the meeting which had been fixed well in advance. The secretary has not done his duty properly,” said Savaikar.
