Salvador-do-Mundo Sarpanch Sandeep Salgaonkar said the panchayat has decided to collect garbage on door-to-door basis from all the wards.
Speaking at the gram sabha on Sunday, Salgaonkar said earlier the panchayat used to collect garbage from only four wards.
"The Penha-de-Franca Panchayat has given us 2,000 dust bins. The residents who have paid garbage fees will be given two dust bins each to keep wet and dry garbage separately. Wet garbage will be collected by the contractor on daily basis, while dry garbage will be collected every Monday and Thursday," informed Salgaonkar.
Dinesh Dias said nationalisation of Goan rivers will damage the ecology of Goa and will affect the livelihood of fishing community. "The central government is trying to convert Goa into coal hub which will create a lot of pollution. Both the projects need to be stopped immediately," said Dias.
After detailed discussions, the gram sabha adopted resolutions to oppose nationalisation of rivers and dumping of coal at Mormugao Port Trust.
Brigadier N H Braganza said theft cases are on the rise in Defence Colony and some LED bulbs installed on the roads are not functioning properly and requested the panchayat to take necessary steps.
Adv Prashant Gadkar brought to the notice of the panchayat that the condition of the road from Kadamba depot to Paitona has become pathetic and driving vehicles on this stretch of road has become a difficult task. He demanded that the road needs to be repaired and hot-mixed immediately.
Sarpanch Salgaonkar said as per the indication given by the contractor, the work on the panchayat ghar cum sports complex will be completed by February 2018. "The panchayat neither encourages illegal constructions in the village nor permits tube wells," said Salgaonkar.
Earlier, panchayat secretary Avinash Palni read the minutes of the last gram sabha, while Deputy Sarpanch Neena Fernandes proposed the vote of thanks.
