Sanguem’s Bendwada bridge work restarts; more 11 months for completion, says MLA

Sanguem’s Bendwada bridge work restarts; more 11 months for completion, says MLA

SANGUEM
After facing severe criticism and uproar by people from Sanguem, including Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar, the government has started the work of Bendwada bridge at Sanguem all over again bringing relief to the people.

The work reportedly restarted after the Sanguem MLA met the GSIDC Managing Director Kotval and made a strong pitch for the resumption of work which was stopped by the government for want of funds.

The work of the construction of the parallel bridge at Bendwada had started a year ago but was held back since March this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Indications were there that the work of the construction would restart after the inter-state borders were thrown open and the labourers started moving to Goa in search of employment from their native states.

However, while the citizens were waiting for the work to restart, there was a move by the contractor to shift the construction material from the site a week back.

On being questioned and asked by MLA Gaonkar, it was ascertained that the contractor was shifting the material for alleged non-payment of dues by the government for the work done by him so far.

The shifting of the material was also criticized by citizens from Sanguem and to that extent press meets were also held by MGP and Sanguem Block Congress warning the government of agitation if the work of construction of Bendwada bridge was not started at the earliest.

MLA Gaonkar subsequently met GSIDC Director Kotval all over again and also other government authorities concerned and managed to persuade the authorities to get the work restarted.

Speaking to the media on site, Gaonkar thanked GSIDC and the government for understanding the need of the people from Sanguem who have been eagerly waiting for the completion of the work of Bendwada bridge since the last one year.

Gaonkar informed that the contractor has assured the completion work of the bridge within a period of eleven months.
