Verna police on Wednesday arrested a youth from Sankhali in a hit and run case on Tuesday.
According to Verna PI Melson Colaco, the incident took place as the accused, Anil Gosavi (27) was proceeding from Agassaim side towards Cortalim junction in an S-Cross car on Tuesday at around 11 am
“Upon reaching the New Zuari flyover bridge at Cortalim, the accused drove his vehicle in rash and negligent manner endangering the human life and personal safety of others. He further overtook a Maruti Omni car and all of sudden took his vehicle on the way towards the Cortalim roadside direction on his left side without taking proper care and precaution.”
“As a result, the S-Cross car struck the Maruti Omni Car on its right side which was proceeding in same direction towards Birla cross junction, Verna side on the New Zuari flyover bridge. The Maruti Omni car overturned on its right hand side on the tar road.”
PI Colaco said the S-Cross car sped away from the accident spot without informing the police or giving medical aid to the driver of the Omni car and its occupant.
“Fortunately, the driver of the Omni car and its occupant escaped unhurt in the accident. We traced S Cross vehicle involved in the hit and run accident and arrested the driver Anil Gosavi under Sections 279, 336 IPC and 134 (a)(b) of MV Act. He was later released on bail,” said PI Colaco.
