A woman from Harvalem-Sankhali has been arrested on charges of issuing a fake letter for government employment.
According to Valpoi police, Rajaram Desai of Desai wada in Advoi-Sattari filed a police complaint accusing Deepashree Sawant alias Deepashree Gawas of having collected Rs 95,000 and issuing a fake government job offer.
Desai stated that he is employed as a temporary pump operator at the WRD since the last few years.
He said Sawant had assured him of a permanent government job on payment of Rs 95,000. After paying her the amount last month, Desai said he began enquiring about the government job and said Sawant then issued a fake appointment letter of the WRD.
Assuming the letter to be genuine, Desai underwent a medical examination at the Mapusa Asilo Hospital and when he went to join duty at the WRD in Porvorim, it was revealed that the appointment letter was fake.
Desai then filed a police complaint and acting on the complaint, Valpoi police arrested Sawant and she has been remanded to judicial custody.
Valpoi PSI Sarvesh Gaddi is investigating the case under the supervision of Police Inspector Sagar Ekoskar.
Speaking to reporters, PI Ekoskar said the police will also investigate the possible involvement of others in the crime.
