Sanvordem demands fresh rate for ore transportation

CURCHOREM

Residents of Sanvordem, mainly comprising truck operators, have demanded that freshly extracted ore be charged a transportation rate of Rs 17.63 per tonne per kilometre.

At the gram gabha meeting on Sunday, members along with panch members decided to meet officials of a mining company on Monday to negotiate the fixing of ore transportation rates.

Locals present at the meeting decided to put forth their disappointment before the mining company, adding that truck operators would not start ore transportation unless the transportation rates of freshly extracted ore is fixed at Rs 17.63 per tonne per km.

Sanvordem Sarpanch Sanjay Naik appealed to the locals to be united and to submit their representation under one banner, rather then splitting into many associations.

Other developmental issues raised at the meeting included the development of a playground at Sanvordem by the Directorate of Sports. Naik informed that work would start shortly.

He also requested gram gabha members to follow up on the pending market complex project.

Residents informed that some people were dumping garbage at Sanvordem bridge, causing stench and health hazard in the area.

The issue of a full-time secretary for Sanvordem Panchayat was also raised and the sarpanch informed that Panchayat Minister Rajendra Arlekar had assured to appoint a new secretaries.
