The Saras 2025, scheduled from March 6 to 16 at Daryasangam, Kala Academy, will give Kunbi fabric enthusiasts a chance to create their own towels, scarves, or handkerchiefs as souvenirs.
The Rural Development Agency will display a Kunbi handloom machine at the ten-day festival, allowing visitors to experience traditional weaving firsthand.
Speaking at a press conference, Rural Development Minister Govind Gaude highlighted that Kunbi fabric, known for being lightweight and breathable, is well-suited to Goa’s humid climate and remains a popular choice among locals. “This year’s Saras festival will be bigger and more engaging, with a special focus on promoting Goan culture and products,” he said.
The event will feature a wide variety of products and talent, with over 550 stalls, including 120 reserved for Northern Indian artists and vendors and 205 dedicated to Goan self-help groups.
Gaude added, “This festival aims to celebrate Goan culture and provide a platform for local artisans, handcrafters, and artists to showcase their work and gain exposure.”
The Saras festival also plays a key role in supporting local handmade products, benefiting from Goa’s thriving tourism industry, which attracts both domestic and international visitors.
To mark International Women’s Day on March 8, CM Pramod Sawant will distribute nearly 10 electric bikes to Goan women on March 6 to encourage their independence and empowerment.
