Former chief minsiter and two-time Member of Parliament, Francisco Sardinha on Monday virtually staked his claim for the Congress ticket for the Lok Sabha elections from the South Goa seat saying he “is interested”.
Sardinha who addressed the media on a load of recent developments, including the formalin-in-fish controversy, said in response to a question that he “is interested” in contesting the South Goa Lok Sabha seat on the Congress ticket.
“I am also interested, if the party is willing to give me the ticket,” Sardinha, a veteran Congressman said when it was pointed out to him that State Mahila chief, Pratima Coutinho had already made it known that she should be considered as a candidate for the South Goa Congress
ticket.
In the last Lok Sabha elections in 2014, Sardinha who was the sitting MP was denied the ticket at the eleventh hour and instead his bete-noire Curtorim MLA, Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco was named the party candidate. Lourenco eventually lost to the BJP candidate and current MP Narendra Sawaikar.
