Taking serious note of rising Covid cases in the taluka, Sattari Mamletdar Dashrath Gawas on Friday convened a joint meeting with officials and directed local authorities to take strict action against those violating SOPs and health guidelines.
Sattari Joint Mamlatdar Sanjivani Satardekar, Valpoi Municipal Council (VMC) Chairperson Sahazin Shaikh, VMC Vice Chairperson Anil Katkar, Valpoi CHC Health Officer Dr Shyam Kankonkar, Medical Officer Dr Abhijit Wadkar, Thane Sarpanch Prajita Gawas, Bhironda Tereza Andrade, Guleli Sarpanch Apurva Chari, Keri Sarpanch Daud Khan and other government officials were present at the meeting.
The Sattari Mamletdar directed authorities to ensure that SOPs and health guidelines are strictly enforced in the taluka.
Sanjivani Satardekar said many Covid cases were reported in Guleli, Keri and Honda and directed Guleli Sarpanch Apurva Chari, Keri Sarpanch Daud Khan and Honda Sarpanch Atmaram Gaonkar to closely monitor the situation and to take measures to control further spread of Covid, else the affected areas will be declared as Covid hotspots and necessary action will be taken.
Satardekar also directed the VMC and local panchayats to strictly observe SOPs regarding the celebration of marriages and warned that those violating the SOPs would face strong action, including suspension of the hall licence.
Satardekar also insisted that no shop or hotel should operate beyond 10 pm on account of the night curfew imposed in the State.
Seeking the support of all sarpanchas, panchas, councillors and social activists to help flatten the curve regarding Covid cases in Sattari taluka, Satardekar appealed to panchayat members to monitor their areas and to create awareness among people to follow SOPs and other health guidelines.
A WhatsApp group is expected to be formed at the panchayat level to update Covid cases in the panchayat concerned.
Valpoi CHC Health Officer Dr Sham Kankonkar appealed to the people of Sattari taluka to cooperate with authorities in controlling the spread of Covid.
He informed that Covid cases have been reported in almost all villages in Sattari and said people should take the matter seriously.
Dr Kankonkar said the Covid vaccination is being administered at the CHC everyday from morning 9 to 5 pm.
Meanwhile, the number of Covid active cases has risen to 177 in Sattari taluka, according to the official bulletin on Saturday.
Restaurant owner held in
Anjuna for flouting SOPs
MAPUSA: Police arrested a restaurant owner on charges of violating Covid norms in Anjuna.
The restaurant was allegedly being run to its full capacity against the prescribed norm of 50 percent capacity.
Anjuna Police informed that the alleged accused, Hemant Serkar (32), a native of Tamil Nadu but currently residing at Badem-Assagao, was running a restaurant near the Chapora jetty.
He was allegedly found running the restaurant to its full capacity, thereby violating the Covid norms released by the State government.
Police registered an offence under Sections 269 and 188 of Indian Penal Code against accused and placed him under arrest.
Incidentally, a series of night clubs and shacks along the Anjuna coast ran full house and played loud music even a day before the government enforced night curfew and came with stricter Covid norms.
At that time Anjuna Police turned a deaf ear to complaints made by locals against loud music played by the clubs and shacks.
