VALPOI
Frequent power outages have angered residents in different parts of Sattari taluka and they fear that the situation could get worse when the monsoon is at its peak in the State.
Valpoi town and many villages have witnessed frequent outages with many areas left in darkness for several hours.
When contacted, many locals were apprehensive that the situation could only get worse during the monsoon season.
“I feel the situation (outages) could get worse during the rains, when there
are heavy thunder showers and gusty winds,” said Sunil Katkar, a local from Valpoi town.
“The electricity department has failed to adopt long-term measures to tackling frequent power disruptions during the monsoon. Whenever the weather turns, a power cut is sure to follow,” said Katkar.
Other residents complained that street lights are not functioning and despite repeated complaints, nothing has been done in the matter and this has cause them hardships at night.
Sources disclose that Valpoi MLA Vishwajeet Rane has taken cognizance of frequent power cuts in Sattari taluka and has convened a high-level meeting with electricity department officials to take stock of the
situation.
