A bison died after falling into a river at Mauxi on Monday, while heavy rains since the last two days have disrupted life in Sattari taluka.Due to rising water levels at the Anjunem Dam, officials opened all four gates to discharge excess water.
Roads were flooded at several places in Sattari taluka during the day, while water level at the Mauxi River rose sharply due to heavy rains in areas like Karne and Dabe.
On Monday afternoon, a bison fell into the river and died. Locals noticed the dead bison floating in the river and alerted veterinary officers.

A veterinary team conducted the autopsy and confirmed that the bison had died after falling into the river.

When contacted, Valpoi RFO Deepak Tandel said continuous rains since the last two days have led to a sharp rise in water levels. “The bison may have been unable to cross the river and drowned,” said Tandel. Due to heavy rains in the Chorla Ghat area, large amounts of water have been accumulating in the reservoir of the Anjunem dam and as a precautionary measure, authorities opened all four gates of the dam on Monday afternoon to release excess water. As a result, there was an increase in water level at the Valvanti river.

Meanwhile, a four-hour traffic jam was witnessed on the Chorla Ghat area between Goa and Belagavi on Sunday after a heavy vehicle broke down.
