Chief Minister Pramod Sawant praised tiatrists for their efforts in taking the Konkani language to the international stage through tiatr.
On Sunday, the Tiatr Academy of Goa (TAG), in collaboration with Ravindra Bhavan, Sanquelim, organised a special event to mark the birth centenary of legendary tiatrists—Late Minguel Rod, Vincent de Saligao, Kamat de Assolna, Antonio Moraes, and Mussolini Vales de Menezes.
The event was attended by Dattaram Chimulkar, Vice Chairman of Ravindra Bhavan, Sanquelim, along with other dignitaries.
The Chief Minister praised TAG President Anthony Barbosa for highlighting the Goa government’s initiatives to support tiatr. He assured full support in promoting tiatr on a global platform.
“Tiatrists have played a key role in creating awareness about social issues through their performances,” Sawant said.
He also appreciated the tiatr community for recognising the government’s efforts in preserving this art form. The CM encouraged TAG to recommend tiatr artists for government awards and announced plans for new honours for tiatrists.
“Women have played an important role in tiatr from the beginning, and their contribution continues to be strong,” he added.
Sawant also thanked the Zomnivele Khell directors for uniting to acknowledge the government’s efforts through a press conference.
The Chief Minister urged TAG to take steps to document tiatr’s history, including the contributions of tiatrists in making it globally known.
TAG President Anthony Barbosa thanked the Chief Minister for his support and requested further assistance, including help for the proposed Tiatr Bhavan project.
TAG Vice-President Marcos Gonsalves delivered the vote of thanks and announced a seminar on tiatr research, along with ongoing efforts to document its history.
The event ended with a musical performance featuring popular songs by late tiatr artists, presented by TAG.
A similar event was held at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, on 22 March, where Margao MLA Digambar Kamat was the chief guest. Kamat praised TAG’s work in promoting tiatr and stressed the need to support this vibrant art form.
Special performances were given by Edwin D’Costa, who travelled from Dubai for the event, along with artists Wilmix-Sharon, Neves Oliveira, Marcus Vaz, Platida, Michael D’Silva, Siddhanath Buyao, Akki Browns, and young talents Rihanaa and Rishona.
