Mickky loading his guns
What is flamboyant Goa Vikas Party supremo Mickkybab Pacheco up to? Well, this question has come to the fore at a time when most of the political parties are gearing up to prepare the road map ahead of the 2017 Assembly election. Sources in the know informed that Mickkybab had been on a tour abroad over the last month, hopping from one country to another. His close aides say that the flamboyant Nuvem MLA had been holidaying in the Far East, the Middle East and the West during the last few days. In between, he took time off twice to brief the media directing his tirade against the saffron dispensation with which he enjoyed an alliance a year ago. And, now sources said that Mickkybab is packing his bags again to fly out of the country during the weekend, which may take him to California in the USA, before he returns home on the eve of the Assembly session beginning from July 25. Political analysts say that nothing much has been heard from Mickkybab or his GVP in recent times. An unfazed Mickkybab, however, only says wait and watch as he promises to fire guns during and after the ensuing Assembly session.
UGDP, GVP: unclear road ahead
With two new political players “ Delhi-based Aam Admi Party (AAP) and Vijaibab-led Goa Forward Party (GFP) - making overt and covert moves in minority Xasttidom, questions have come to the fore over the fate of the existing outfits, the Goa Vikas Party (GVP) and United Goans Democratic Party (UGDP). The GVP had won two seats in Xasttidom in the 2012 election, while the UGDP had drawn a blank in the 2007 and 2012 election. Questions are being raised whether the two political outfits, which entered into seat sharing arrangement in the 2012 election, will come together again in 2017 to face the might of their rivals, including the two new entrants in Xasttidom. Sources in the know say that Mickkybab is not averse in stitching an arrangement with UGDP’s Anacleto-Radharao combine to keep the two local outfits in good stead. In fact, Mickkybab has claimed that he has already spoken to Radharaobab on the need for the two Xastti players to come together and face the onslaught from the new entrants. Wait and watch.
Curtorim Cong still fast asleep
How will the Curtorim block Congress panel recommend the names of prospective party candidates for the Curtorim seat with the candidates selection process underway in the State? Well, while the Congress committee of most other blocks in Xasttidom have drawn up a schedule of meetings to decide the candidates before recommending the names to the district Congress committee, doubts are raised in Curtorim’s political circles whether the block Congress can recommend the names when no block committee exists in the constituency. It’s exactly two years that the Curtorim block has been lying defunct ever since the then block president quit the position in protest against the Congress high command’s decision to deny the 2014 Lok Sabha election to Francisco Sardinha and nominating arch rival Reginaldbab for the ticket. Since then till date, the block committee remains defunct despite the fact that Congress chief Luizinhbab had been sending reminder after reminder to the two-time Curtorim MLA to submit his list of names for induction on the block panel. Wait and watch how Luzinhbab will deal with the situation even as reports suggest that Sardinhab has already submitted his list to the Congress leadership.
