PANAJI: The SC on Tuesday ‘disposed of’ a plea filed by Raj Bhavan against an order of the Bombay HC at Goa which had directed the Raj Bhavan to provide information under the RTI Act to applicant, then leader of Opposition, Manohar Parrikar back in 2007.
Parrikar had sought, under RTI, a copy of the governor’s report sent to the president on the political situation in Goa, which was resisted by Raj Bhavan. The SC bench of Justice Arun Mishra and Amitava Roy has however kept open the appeal to the limited question of whether the Office of the Governor comes under the purview of RTI.
The bench sought to know whether Parrikar still sought the information he wanted more than 10 years ago and proceeded to close the matter as ‘infructuous’. The SC also ruled that the HC order, which had brought the office of the governor under the purview of RTI, was not to be enforced for the time being.
